With the NHL season in full swing it has our coaches at Hockey Haven are always looking for more ways to improve the play of our campers. This hockey season has been disappointing for many if not all of our campers, with mainly skill-based practices and no games to apply skill or strategy to. There is only so much skill you can practice, that’s why this summer at Camp Hockey Haven we will be incorporating strategy and video review to our hockey program. We are going to show you how to apply the skills you have been practicing so much this year, into real game situations. Not only are we going to teach our normal power skating, power edge pro, and skills, but we are going to teach campers how to play the game in every situation, to try and make up for some of the missed seasons so many kids faced this year, and the shortened season from 2020. Included in this teaching will be video review sessions at night to ensure proper positioning and understanding of gameplay. Taught by our coaches; Troy Binnie former professional hockey player, James Richmond former professional hockey player and current head coach of the Mississauga Steelheads, Joe McTamney former professional hockey player and head of hockey development at Hockey Haven, with support staff; Beau Binnie current NCAA D3 hockey player at Trine University, Mitchell Binnie 2012 OHL draft pick and Quinn Binnie 2020 OHL draft pick. Focus will be on game play techniques, strategy, anticipation, positioning, odd man rushes, outlet options, defensive zone positional play, and more! I think many of us are tired of skills training this winter so let’s get some game play in this summer!
