At Haliburton Hockey Haven Sports Camp we are dedicated to enriching the lives of young athletes through sport, education and leadership.  Although, our organization has been doing this since 1964, for the first time in our history, we have purchased our own camp facility and are in need of some great people to assist us in our new endeavor!  This job is a contract position but we are hoping that full-time employment will be the end result with our new facility.  If you are the type of person that doesn’t mind lending a hand in any capacity to assist our brand new endeavor flourish now and into the future than we would love to hear from you!

The Head Cook’s responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Planning a menu and preparing nutritionally balanced meals (including omnivore/vegetarian) for 20 – 60+ people
  • Placing wholesale orders and managing a budget with the Director of Operations
  • Advising Assistant Cook/kitchen assistants on daily routines
  • Cleaning and maintaining the kitchen and cookhouse facilities
  • Proper storage and rotation of food kept on-site
  • Monitoring and maintenance of food and supplies inventory
  • Working with the Director of Operations to ensure efficient operation of the cookhouse
  • Opening/closing seasonal kitchen facilities
  • Maintain health and safety standards

The HHHSC Cookhouse provides meals and evening snacks 7 days per week, to anywhere from 20 – 80 campers and staff, from Sunday dinner to Saturday Breakfast for 8 weeks starting July 2nd.  Meals are prepared in a fully outfitted kitchen and served buffet-style in a communal dining area.  Strong organizational skills and a strong work ethic are crucial attributes of the successful applicant. The applicant should also enjoy life in a beautiful setting and working closely with children.  An interest in sports, leadership and an appreciation for the outdoors would also be a benefit.

Other preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience in all aspects of food handling and preparation
  • Knowledge of cooking “from scratch” with bulk ingredients
  • Basic culinary knowledge and knowledge of products
  • Experience in large-quantity cooking is an asset but not necessary
  • Safe Food Handling Certificate
  • Knowledge of food safety guidelines
  • Ability to plan and implement a cost effective weekly menu
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Vulnerable sector check/police records check
